General Information About GRAND TOUR OF SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka is an island in South Asia, located in the Indian Ocean, east of the Indian peninsula. It is known for its rich history and diverse culture, with Indian, Arab and European influences.

There are many interesting things to do in Sri Lanka. Some suggestions include:

- Visit the city of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka and a major commercial and cultural center. You can tour its markets, museums and public squares, and enjoy the delicious local food.

- See the ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa, a city that was the capital of the kingdom of Polonnaruwa in the 12th century. The ruins include temples, palaces and monumental statues.

- Go on safari in one of Sri Lanka's national parks, such as Yala National Park or Udawalawe National Park. Here you can see a variety of wild animals, such as elephants, lions, buffaloes and monkeys.

- Visit the white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters of the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Some of the most popular beaches are Unawatuna, Mirissa and Hikkaduwa.

- Visit the Temple of the Tooth of Buddha in Kandy, a sacred place for Sri Lankan Buddhists. Here is a sacred relic, a tooth of the Buddha, which is kept in a gold reliquary.

- There are many other things to do in Sri Lanka, including hiking in the countryside, visiting tea factories, and sampling the delicious local food.

Itinerary


Sri Lanka

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN COLOMBO.
Arrival at the airport in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. Reception and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, we will make a panoramic tour of the city visiting the most representative places of Colombo, the commercial district of Petah and the Galle Face promenade. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 2: COLOMBO / HABARANA.
Breakfast. Departure by road to Habarana. Arrival in Habarana. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: HABARANA /SIGIRIYA / POLONARUWA/HABARANA.
Breakfast and visit of Sigiriya, an ancient complex of palaces built during the reign of King Kasyapa (477-495). It is classified as a World Heritage Site in 1982. Continue by road to Polonnaruwa, one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, being the seat of the Sinhalese kings from the eleventh century to the thirteenth century. In 1982 it was declared a World Heritage Site.  Visit the famous statues of the Buddhas of Gal Vihara, three large statues carved into a rock face, which stand out for their detail and impress with their size. Return to Habarana. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 4: HABARANA /DAMBULLA / MATALE/ KANDY.
Breakfast. Departure by road to Kandy. En route a stop to visit the Dambulla Temple. This whole area was declared a World Heritage Site. Continue to Kandy, en route a stop to visit the spice garden of Matale. Arrival in Kandy, known as the capital of the mountains, besides being the heart of Buddhism in the country. For its environment, architecture and beauty was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 5: KANDY /PINNAWELA /KANDY.
Breakfast. Departure by road to Pinnawela to visit the Elephant Orphanage, one of the most popular attractions in Sri Lanka.  On the way back to Kandy visit the Peradeniya Botanical Garden, the first botanical garden built by a Sinhala king and enlarged by the English. Its 147 acres are filled with wonderful varieties of trees, plants and flowers, mainly orchids, medicinal plants and palms.
Return to Kandy and visit the Dalada Maligawa, an architectural ensemble formed by pink pavilions with red roofs where the Temple of the Tooth of Buddha, the main religious center for Buddhist followers where the relic of the tooth of Buddha is venerated. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 6: KANDY/NUWARA ELIYA.
Breakfast. Departure by road to Nuwara Eliya. En route we will make a brief stop to visit the Ramboda waterfall. Arrival in Nuwara Eliya, visit a tea plantation and tea factory. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 7: NUWARA ELIYA/ ELLA / YALA.
Breakfast. Departure to Yala is highly recommended to stop in Ella for a snack or a drink. There is no shortage of restaurants and bars in this cozy town. Highlights of Ella: Nine arched bridge and Ravana Falls. Continue to Yala and check into the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 8: YALA/ GALLE /BERUWELA.
Early morning proceed to Yala National Park to enjoy your morning wildlife safari.
Return and breakfast at the hotel. Breakfast, departure to Galle. Upon arrival, city tour at the Dutch fort of Galle, a world heritage site. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 9: DEPARTURE BERUWELA/ COLOMBO.
Breakfast. Transfer to the international airport to connect with your departure flight.
